Dust Explosion Hazards and CFD Training (Singapore)
Dust Explosion Hazards and CFD Training (Singapore)
Course Summary
Flammable dust explosions are a common hazard across various industries. While many incidents result in minor consequences, some lead to significant damage or even loss of life. Understanding the underlying conditions that cause these explosions—and implementing effective prevention and mitigation strategies—is essential for ensuring workplace safety.
This course is designed to give participants a solid foundation in the physics of dust explosions, as well as practical tools and techniques to manage the associated risks. A major component of the training includes hands-on experience with FLACS-DustEx, a specialized Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) tool used to simulate explosion scenarios, assess potential consequences, and evaluate the effectiveness of safety measures.
Through a combination of theoretical instruction, demonstrations, and interactive exercises, the course explores a wide range of critical safety topics. These include the role of facility layout and geometry, the design and function of pressure relief vents, the use of physical barriers, inertization techniques, operational best practices, and systematic hazard analysis.
By the end of the course, participants will be better equipped to identify dust explosion risks in their own facilities and implement targeted strategies to prevent incidents or reduce their impact.
