    The ATEX Directive 2014/34/EU demands that electrical and mechanical equipment to be used in potentially explosive areas is approved for that purpose. This approval can be performed by the manufacturers themselves if the equipment is to be used in zone 2 and 22 for electrical and mechanical equipment, and in zone 1 and 2 and 21 and 22 considering mechanical equipment.

    To support industry performing this approval process, a so-called self-declaration, detailed knowledge is necessary on gas and/or dust explosions and especially ignition properties and ignition processes. The course aims at teaching manufacturers performing an ignition hazard assessment and the processes involved in issuing self-declarations depending on the classification of the hazardous area.

  • Course Objectives

    You will learn about gas- and dust explosion basics, ignition processes, how to perform ignition hazard assessments, and the processes involved in issuing self-declarations depending on the classification of the hazardous area.

  • Target Group

    Manufacturers of equipment to be used in potentially explosive atmospheres. All of these below but not limited to:

    • Process safety engineers
    • Electrical engineers
    • Chemical engineers
    • Mechanical engineers
    • Process engineers/ scientists

  • Prerequisites

    In general, no special prerequisites are required. However, knowledge in process safety and experience in plant operation will be helpful.
